Licensing and Regulation

This page explains how licensing and regulation work for gambling sites in Canada, and what this site does and does not do.

Know what this site is

mylibook.com is an information publisher. We write guides and explainers for adult readers in Canada. We do not hold a gambling licence. We are not an operator. We do not take bets, hold player funds, or run games. Nothing on this site is a licence, an approval, or a guarantee about any operator.

Understand what a licence means

A gambling licence is permission from a regulator to run gambling in a set jurisdiction. In Ontario, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is the regulator, and iGaming Ontario conducts and manages internet gaming on behalf of the province. An operator that offers games in Ontario must be registered with the AGCO and operate under an agreement with iGaming Ontario.

In general terms, a licence means the regulator has reviewed the operator and set conditions the operator must meet. Those conditions can cover player funds, game fairness, advertising, complaint handling, and responsible gambling tools. A licence is not a promise that you will win, and it is not a promise that a site suits your budget.

You can read the regulator’s own material at agco.ca and igamingontario.ca.

Check the rules where you live

Provincial rules differ. A site that is legal in one province may not be legal in another. Age limits also differ. The minimum age is 19 in most provinces, and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Check the rules for your own province before you sign up anywhere.

Check the licence before you play

  1. Step 1: Decide which province’s rules apply to you.
  2. Step 2: Open the regulator’s own public register for that province.
  3. Step 3: Search the operator’s legal name, not just the brand name on the page.
  4. Step 4: Confirm the licence is current and covers the products you want to use.
  5. Step 5: If the operator is not on the register, do not deposit.

Use the regulator’s register, not a review site, not an advert, and not this page. Registers change, so check on the day you plan to play.

Priya Raghunathan writes our gambling pages. She spent nine years as a retail-bank branch teller in Mississauga. She covers first deposits, low minimum deposits, KYC checks, house edge, and live-chat etiquette. She re-walks each step on a real account before writing it up, states fees in dollars up front, and checks regulatory claims against AGCO or iGaming Ontario notices.

We do not claim that any operator is licensed unless the page for that operator says so and shows where the claim was checked. Where we link to operators, some links may earn a commission. See our affiliate disclosure.
